Coinbase Completes Deribit Integration

Coinbase is preparing to bring back Coinbase Pro by the end of 2026 after completing the integration of Deribit into its global trading infrastructure.

The completed integration brings Coinbase International Exchange and Deribit together under Coinbase Global Exchange, combining liquidity and infrastructure across spot, futures, perpetuals and options. Coinbase said the migration was completed on Oct. 1, 2026, with Deribit's derivatives technology now powering the combined platform.

Coinbase said the integration will support the rollout of Deribit-powered options, spot margin and unified portfolios in the coming weeks. The company is also positioning the changes as part of its broader effort to build a single trading platform covering multiple crypto markets and financial products.

U.S. Clients to Gain Access to Global Derivatives Liquidity

A major part of the development involves Coinbase Financial Markets, the company's U.S.-regulated futures commission merchant. Coinbase plans to connect eligible U.S. clients with global crypto derivatives liquidity through the new structure.

Coinbase said the arrangement will connect U.S. and international derivatives markets through a single liquidity pool. The company says eligible U.S. institutional clients will be able to access Deribit options and perpetual futures through Coinbase Prime, while options access for U.S. retail customers is expected later this year.

The regulatory framework behind the expansion was strengthened in May when the Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued an interpretation concerning certain Deribit perpetual contracts. The CFTC said the contracts covered by its interpretation could be categorized as foreign futures, subject to the conditions described in its May 29, 2026, action.

Deribit Expands Coinbase's Options and Perpetuals Business

Coinbase acquired Deribit in August 2025 for approximately $2.9 billion, adding one of the largest crypto derivatives platforms to its business.

The integration gives Coinbase access to Deribit's established options infrastructure while bringing Coinbase's global spot and derivatives markets closer together. Coinbase said Deribit had more than $30 billion in Bitcoin options open interest as of Sept. 30 and processed more than $1 trillion in trading volume last year.

The combined platform is designed to support spot, futures, perpetuals and options, alongside Coinbase services such as custody, financing and staking. Coinbase also says the integration brings deeper liquidity, a new matching engine and an expanded risk framework.

Coinbase Pro Is Coming Back

The return of Coinbase Pro marks a reversal of Coinbase's earlier decision to retire the platform.

Coinbase announced in 2022 that it would sunset Coinbase Pro and move its advanced trading features into Coinbase Advanced. The phased migration was completed in November 2023, after which Coinbase Pro was no longer supported.

Coinbase's original Coinbase Pro shutdown announcement

Now Coinbase says Coinbase Pro will return at the end of 2026 as a dedicated professional-grade platform. The company says the rebuilt version will feature faster order routing, improved execution flows and advanced tools aimed at high-volume active traders.

Coinbase's new announcement says Pro will support spot, futures, perpetuals, options and equities under one platform, giving active traders access to a broader range of markets than the original product offered.

Spot Margin Trading Adds Another Layer

Coinbase is also preparing to introduce spot margin trading for eligible customers.

The feature will allow qualified users to borrow against collateral to increase the size of spot trades. Coinbase says leverage will reach up to 10 times on selected major assets and up to five times on other supported assets.

Alongside margin trading, Coinbase has introduced a new matching engine, streamlined the onboarding process and changed fee tiers for Coinbase Advanced. The updated tiers begin at $10,000 in qualifying trading volume, with both spot and derivatives activity counting toward volume thresholds.

Coinbase's latest platform update

One Platform for Spot and Derivatives

The Deribit integration is intended to reduce fragmentation between Coinbase's different trading venues.

For institutional users, the combined infrastructure brings spot, futures, perpetuals and options closer together while allowing Coinbase to consolidate liquidity and trading technology. Coinbase says Deribit's next-generation matching engine is designed to provide faster and more scalable execution across the platform.

Coinbase Global Exchange Help Center

The company is also rolling out unified portfolios, which are designed to give traders a broader view of their positions and allow Coinbase to apply cross-portfolio risk modeling and multi-asset margin offsets.

For eligible users, the changes mean more derivatives products can be accessed through Coinbase's existing ecosystem rather than requiring separate platforms for different instruments.

What Comes Next for Coinbase

The immediate focus will be the rollout of options, spot margin and unified portfolios following the completion of the Deribit integration.

Coinbase says options will become available to eligible traders outside the U.S. in the coming weeks, while U.S. retail access is expected later in 2026. U.S. institutional clients can begin onboarding for options through Coinbase Financial Markets, subject to eligibility and applicable requirements.

At the same time, the planned return of Coinbase Pro gives high-volume traders a dedicated platform while Coinbase continues developing Advanced and its broader Global Exchange infrastructure.

The combination of Deribit's derivatives technology, Coinbase's spot markets and regulated U.S. infrastructure represents a significant expansion of the company's trading ecosystem. The next major milestone will be the rollout of these new products and the return of Coinbase Pro before the end of the year.
