Coinbase and Samsung Expand Their Crypto Partnership
Coinbase and Samsung are taking their partnership deeper by bringing USDC directly into Samsung Wallet for eligible users in the United States.
The feature is scheduled to launch in the last week of October 2026 and will make USDC the first supported stablecoin in Samsung Wallet. The service will be operated with Coinbase and Bastion, while additional infrastructure and blockchain partners will support the underlying technology. Samsung has also identified Solana and Sui among the networks providing relevant technical capabilities.
The move follows earlier stages of the Coinbase-Samsung relationship. Coinbase first added Samsung Pay as a payment option for buying crypto through its app. The companies subsequently expanded their partnership to provide Coinbase One benefits through Samsung Wallet to more than 82 million Galaxy users in the U.S. Coinbase's latest announcement now extends the relationship into stablecoin access.
USDC Will Be the Default Dollar Stablecoin
When eligible Samsung Wallet users select the option to buy a stablecoin, USDC will automatically appear as the default dollar stablecoin.
USDC is designed to maintain a one-to-one redemption value against the U.S. dollar. Circle says the stablecoin is backed by highly liquid cash and cash-equivalent assets, with reserves disclosed through its transparency program and monthly third-party assurance.
The integration gives users access to a dollar-denominated digital asset through an application already used for other digital wallet functions. Samsung said the initial functionality will support USDC transfers to compatible wallets, as well as transfers to eligible bank accounts in more than 60 countries, where recipients may receive local currency.
Coinbase Prime Will Handle USDC Custody
A key part of the arrangement is how USDC held within Samsung Wallet will be safeguarded.
Coinbase says it will custody USDC balances through Coinbase Prime Vault, using its custody infrastructure. The company said the service uses its NYDFS-qualified custody services as part of the asset-protection framework.
The custody structure also involves Bastion, a stablecoin custodian and infrastructure provider. Samsung separately confirmed that Bastion and Coinbase will operate the USDC functionality within Samsung Wallet.
This means Samsung Wallet users will not need to manage private keys themselves for the initial stablecoin experience. Samsung described the feature as a way for eligible Galaxy users to access USDC without installing another application or handling their own private keys.
USDC Has Expanded Its Global Footprint
The Samsung integration arrives as USDC continues to expand across wallets, applications and payment infrastructure.
According to Circle's current disclosures, USDC had approximately $74.1 billion in circulation as of October 5, 2026, backed by about $74.3 billion in reserves. Circle also states that USDC reserves are backed by highly liquid assets and that monthly third-party assurance is provided by a Big Four accounting firm.
The figures in Coinbase's announcement also highlight the pace of USDC adoption. Coinbase said USDC circulation increased 72% during 2025 to more than $75 billion, while wallets holding USDC increased 59% to nearly 7 million.
For users, the Samsung integration provides another distribution channel for the stablecoin. Instead of accessing USDC exclusively through a crypto exchange or dedicated digital-asset application, eligible Galaxy users will be able to access the asset through Samsung Wallet.
Samsung Wallet Could Become a Stablecoin Access Point
The partnership also expands the role of Samsung Wallet beyond traditional digital-wallet functions.
Samsung said stablecoin functionality will initially focus on USDC, but future capabilities could include using stablecoins for online purchases or potentially paying by tapping an eligible Galaxy device in stores. Any expansion into additional markets will depend on local regulatory developments.
The company is therefore positioning stablecoins alongside existing wallet functions rather than treating them as a separate crypto product. Users can access the feature from an application already designed for digital payments, cards and other credentials.
For Coinbase, the arrangement provides another distribution channel for USDC. For Samsung, it adds stablecoin functionality to its mobile ecosystem while relying on specialized crypto infrastructure providers for custody and blockchain support.
Solana and Sui Support the Infrastructure
Samsung's announcement also provides important technical context around the networks supporting the stablecoin experience.
The initial stablecoin functionality will use infrastructure supplied by several partners with the required technical capabilities, including Solana and Sui. Samsung's announcement does not describe the two networks as separate stablecoin products within Wallet; instead, it identifies them among the partners supporting infrastructure and blockchain network capabilities.
The inclusion of established blockchain infrastructure behind a familiar consumer interface illustrates how stablecoins can increasingly operate without requiring users to understand the underlying network mechanics.
That approach could make digital-dollar transfers more accessible to users who are interested in moving money digitally but do not want to navigate separate crypto wallets, private keys or blockchain interfaces.
Coinbase and Samsung Target Broader Stablecoin Utility
The Samsung Wallet integration represents the latest step in a partnership that began with crypto purchasing through Samsung Pay and expanded into Coinbase One benefits for Galaxy users.
Now, with USDC becoming the first supported stablecoin, Coinbase and Samsung are adding stablecoin access directly to the mobile wallet experience. The launch is scheduled for the last week of October 2026 for eligible Galaxy users in the U.S.
The partnership also reflects a broader push to make stablecoins useful beyond crypto trading. With wallet access, custody infrastructure and transfers combined within an established consumer application, USDC can be presented as a digital-dollar product rather than solely as a cryptocurrency-market asset.
As Samsung prepares the rollout, the key milestones will be the late-October launch, initial user availability and the development of additional stablecoin payment capabilities. For Coinbase, the integration creates another large-scale consumer distribution channel for USDC, while Samsung gains a new financial function for its digital wallet ecosystem.
