Base Weekly Roundup: DeFi TVL Hits $5.7B as New Apps Launch

Base Expands Across DeFi and Onchain Finance

Base had another active week as developers and financial applications continued expanding across the Ethereum Layer 2 network.

The week's headline developments included the transition from Coinbase Wallet to the Base App, reported DeFi total value locked (TVL) of $5.7 billion, new tokenized-stock integrations and several launches spanning payments, artificial intelligence, privacy and decentralized finance.

The growing range of applications gives Base an increasingly broad role in onchain markets. The network is now being used not only for crypto trading but also for tokenized equities, stablecoin payments, automated yield products and consumer-focused applications.

Coinbase Wallet Becomes the Base App

One of the most significant updates was the rebranding and expansion of Coinbase's wallet product into the Base App.

Base officially describes the application as the next evolution of Coinbase Wallet and an "everything app" combining social features, trading, payments, app discovery and earning. Users can manage assets, interact with applications and use onchain services from the same platform.

The change is part of a broader strategy to make Base more than blockchain infrastructure. According to Base, the Base App brings together the user-facing experience while Base Chain continues to serve as the underlying Ethereum Layer 2 network.

Base DeFi TVL Reaches Reported $5.7 Billion

DeFi activity was another major focus this week.

The supplied ecosystem update reported that Base DeFi TVL reached an all-time high of $5.7 billion, citing DeFiLlama. Current DeFiLlama data places Base's TVL around $5.6 billion, confirming that the network remains at roughly the same scale even though the live figure can fluctuate.

The network's current activity also includes more than $1 billion in daily decentralized-exchange volume and more than 400,000 active addresses in the latest DeFiLlama snapshot.

Tokenized Stocks Spread Across the Base Ecosystem

Tokenized equities were one of the strongest themes in this week's launches.

Ledger added Coinbase Tokenized Stocks on Base for trading. Spectra Finance integrated the assets into fixed-term yield markets for AAPLc, NVDAc and other tokenized stocks, while Zyfai added Coinbase Tokenized Stocks and swaps to its Yield Account.

Beefy Finance also launched a Base tokenized-stock vault designed to provide automated compounding strategies for eligible users.

Base's official stock infrastructure shows that Coinbase Tokenized Stocks are issued as B20 tokens, backed 1:1 by underlying shares held in regulated custody. The assets are designed to be held in self-custody and used across participating Base DeFi applications.

Base Tokenized Stocks

Base says tokenized stocks can be traded around the clock, including weekends and U.S. market holidays, and can be used across supported applications for activities such as lending and borrowing. Availability remains restricted to eligible jurisdictions outside the United States.

Payments and Financial Products Gain Momentum

Base's expansion also continued in payment infrastructure.

Munify AI launched a dollar account on Base that supports receiving, holding, spending and moving funds through USDC, ACH, wire transfers and Visa. Blockradar introduced USD and EUR virtual accounts and payout rails designed to provide fintech companies with cross-border settlement through a single API.

Nedapay also launched payment APIs on Base, allowing applications to embed stablecoin payment functionality without requiring users to leave the platform.

These launches add another layer to Base's ecosystem by connecting stablecoins with conventional payment methods and financial applications.

DeFi Integrations Add More Utility

Several established DeFi protocols also expanded their Base presence during the week.

IPOR deployed Fusion vaults for regulated capital on Base, with deposits allocated to venues including Aave and Morpho under onchain mandates. Tenor Finance added Aerodrome as OTC collateral for fixed-rate borrowing on Base, with positions settling through Morpho Midnight.

These integrations show how Base applications are increasingly connecting lending, collateral and yield products with tokenized assets.

The expansion is particularly relevant as Coinbase Tokenized Stocks become available across more DeFi infrastructure. Base's official documentation lists applications including Aave, Morpho, Beefy, Aerodrome and other protocols as part of its tokenized-stock ecosystem.

AI and Privacy Projects Launch on Base

Artificial intelligence was another growing area of activity.

Heurist AI integrated Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments on Base, allowing research agents to pay for data and tools through x402. Meanwhile, Openserv AI launched its SERV Reasoning API, offering AI reasoning capabilities with compliance and data-privacy features.

Privacy infrastructure also expanded. PrivacyBoost launched an end-to-end privacy layer on Base designed to shield balances and enable private transactions from existing wallets.

Separately, Bankr added Ethos reputation scores to Base token launch pages, displaying the reputation score of token founders. The feature is powered by Ethos Network.

Prediction Markets and Sports Applications Expand

Base also saw several consumer-oriented launches during the week.

Pred launched V2, positioning it as a faster sports prediction exchange focused on yes/no markets. Longshot introduced football markets covering leagues in England, the United States, Spain and other regions.

Sportfun launched a skill-based sports arena designed around performance rather than speculation. Setz introduced a new Collectibles series using liquid onchain assets to support new intellectual-property drops.

QuickNode also launched an onchain Presidents Cup tracker, recording session results on Base and updating the information live.

More Builder and Ecosystem Activity

Developer activity remained another important part of the weekly update.

Colosseum presented a Base-focused track at Crypto World's Fair. The supplied update says the top five Base-integrating startups are competing for a $25,000 prize pool.

The Base APAC × NewCampus Circuit Accelerator also released its first interview, featuring KevinCodex from GitLawB. Meanwhile, Bankr announced Runtime Agent Week + Hackathon in New York City, scheduled for September 13–19.

The Base launchpad o1 Exchange also crossed $1 billion in total trading volume on Base, according to the supplied ecosystem update.

Another project, Noise, announced that its mainnet is coming. The platform is designed as a marketplace for curating and trading cultural signals, with purchased testnet Credits set to convert 1:1, according to the supplied announcement.

Base's Ecosystem Is Becoming More Diverse

The latest weekly developments point to a Base ecosystem that is expanding well beyond conventional decentralized exchanges.

DeFi remains a core component, with TVL reported at around $5.7 billion. At the same time, tokenized equities are gaining integrations across wallets, trading platforms and DeFi protocols, while stablecoin payments are being connected with traditional financial rails.

The Coinbase Wallet transition into Base App adds another important layer by giving users a single interface for trading, social activity, payments and onchain applications. Base officially describes the app as a broader platform rather than simply a wallet.

With new products continuing to launch across finance, AI, privacy, sports and consumer applications, Base's latest activity highlights the growing diversity of use cases being built on the network.
